Artist Statement

In my paintings, I explore the relationships between various color harmonies and the illusion of surface textures.  For me, painting is a way to use color, texture, and form to create a visually stimulating image. It allows me to explore the range of possibilities through subtle changes in color choices, compositions, methods of application and surface preparations.  I think that a painting should be first and foremost, a painting. Meanings are extra layers, not the foundation. I am inspired by microscopic images, landscape and groups like The Fauves, Cubists, Abstract Expressionists, les Automatistes, some Minimalists and Post Modern Abstract Expressionists.
